St. Joseph's Senior National School, Ballymun, Dublin 11

Music Programme

"Let all the children be given the opportunity to sing, whatever their song"

The Ballymun music programme has been running in St. Joseph's SNS since as far back as 1996. The story of Ballymun and St. Joseph's SNS is beautifully captured in the award-winning film the "Ballymun Lullaby" from 2012 with the vision, teaching and resourcing of the programme continuing to this very day.

This includes weekly recorder lessons for 3rd classes, choir and individual/group lessons for brass and drums/percussion from 4th class up. We enter the cor fheile competition every year and use music to promote a sense of well-being and achievement for the pupils in our school. These weekly instrumental tuition lessons are delivered by the legendary Ron Cooney and his staff of professional music teachers.

The personal growth, teamwork and value to the children of Ballymun is a real positive aspect of our school community and something that we are very grateful for.
